I met this sweet little buddy at Park Road Books today. I forgot her name, but she was a delighful employee and she made my visit all the more better! For my haul I got Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson (I’m gonna put it on the shelves at work when I get finished reading it) and I finally got me a copy of The Disappearing Spoon!

All at once, The world can overwhelm me -Jack Johnson

I am in the long and tedious and stressful and whine-inducing and overwhelming process of moving. This involves me having to go back and clean up the old apartment every morning. On the drive back to my new place this afternoon I was listening to Fresh Air on NPR and they were interviewing Sam Kean who previously wrote The Disappearing Spoon: And Other True Tales of Madness, Love, and the History of the World From the Periodic Table of the Elements and who just released his newest book The Violinist’s Thumb: And Other Lost Tales of Love, War and Genius, As Written By Our Genetic Code. I have been wanting to read The Disappearing Spoon for several months and now after hearing the interview with Kean I am desperate to read the newest one too. However, I feel like I am getting overwhelmed with reading and the move and life right now. I have book club coming up in less than two weeks and the book I ordered for that meeting (AWOL on the Appalachian Trail) still hasn’t come in the mail. Plus, I’m only 60% done with Villette and now I am desperate to read the two works by Kean. I am doing so well with Villette that I know I can only read this one at the time and I will need to devote all my attention to it before starting anything new. We have to be out of our old apartment by the 31st and we still have several pieces of huge furniture that we need to get rid of  (couch, recliner, bed, two dressers, dining room table, buffet server, washer and dryer) and I spent three hours scrubbing and mopping and cleaning and working like crazy only to get the guest (read: cleaner of the two) bathroom clean! I was so frustrated and tired and hungry that it was just time to hit the road and leave the rest for another day. Oh, I forgot to mention that I am supposed to go back to my parents house Friday-Sunday which means that I’ll only have one day left when I get back to finish everything up! Plus, our new place looks like a cardboard box store (we’ve not gotten everything unpacked and it’s making me antsy).

See- overwhelming.

Oh, also, as I was driving to my old apartment I heard an interview with Jo Nesbo and now I am also desperate to read his novels as well. Oy!

So, you can see how I am getting really overwhelmed right now and I have so much to do to ensure that I am 100% completely moved in by the time school starts back (August 8- so damn early!) so that I don’t have to add “work” to my list of woes I am currently suffering under.

Oh, and fabulous, the library just called and stated that a book I had placed a hold on is now available, so add one more to my TBR pile! Good grief, Chuck Brown.

I’m off to unpack or read or clean or something. Read on, readers.
